Update: The Narara Ecovillage Co-op Ltd has been successful in securing the beautiful, wonderful, important, historical, property at Narara, near Gosford and just north of Sydney. At 3.55pm today our Mattila lawyers exchanged contracts with the solicitor representing the State Property Authority. (Read the latest newsletter here.)
On 29 March 2012 an awesome team of people submitted a tender on behalf of NEV to purchase the Gosford Horticultural Institute at Narara, 1.5 hours north of Sydney, Australia to develop the Narara Ecovillage, a leading-edge, socially, environmentally and economically residential development.
The team consists of these key NEV people: the Chair of the Co-op Stuart King, a lawyer and senior banker, Project Director, John Talbott, has successfully completed an ecovillage development in Northern Scotland which is world famous, Lyndall Parris, the initiator of this project has an accounting and education background, Bill Nettleton and Phil Thallis. Sam Parris, a commercial analyst and accountant, is helping run the financial model and spreadsheets and Jenni Mattila from Mattila Lawyers is our legal advisor.
We have also attached two sheets that we prepared for our NSW Government tender submission so that you can see how this project may lead you to be part of one of the most exciting developments this country has known: Advantages of the ecovillage model over a traditional subdivision. Read it here.

The Narara Ecovillage site is approx 63ha of which about 12 ha of land is zoned 2(a) to enable residential development where we plan to house between 150 – 200 homes of mixed density. There are also 5 rural residential lots for sale. It seems that the project is gaining more and more momentum and interest. Currently we have a database of over 600 people interested in the project and we are expecting this small, niche, community-owned residential project to be a sell out.
The Narara Research Centre is located a little over an hour north of Sydney, near Gosford.
The majority of the perimeter of the site adjoins public reserve and Strickland State Forest. Public transport is accessible - a school bus and regular bus service operates from Fountains Road, approximately 250 metres to the east, and the railway is approximately 2km from the Narara land. The Narara Valley High School is within walking distance and Niagara Park Public School is within 2.5 kms to the north.
